22 September 2016: The Nagar Mitra- Friends of the City Social Enterprise has been successful in collecting, bailing and sending more than 1,00,51,560 PET (plastic) bottles i.e. around 263 tons for recycling so far. The partners (GIZ, Coca-Coal- Bottlers Nepal, Ganesha Ecoshpere and Himalayan Climate Initiative) making efforts to scale this social enterprise on Thursday came together to celebrate this moment. The hardworking team behind this achievement promised to continue their efforts to make the environment clean and green.
This fully functional PET Collection/Sorting/Baling Social Enterprise in Kathmandu has this far given employment opportunity to 29 full time waste workers at its own premises (23 women), and has supported another 243 waste workers operating independently (increasing their income by 18.5% as per a recent survey).
With the strength of committed leadership, support young volunteers, close to a hundred corporate partners, and dozens of public personalities the Enterprise has developed fantastic relations with waste workers and responsible waste entrepreneurs the supply of used PET waste has become smooth for the Enterprise now.
