Malvika Subba joins young volunteers to help HIV infected children

Young volunteers from different schools in Kathmandu took lead in organizing flash mobs, engaging with celebrities, and organizing concerts to raise funds to help HIV infected children housed at Safalta HIV Shiksha Sadan, Kirtipur. The volunteers are associated with The Gen Nep- Nation First which is a ‘volunteering, learning and leading platform’ of Himalayan Climate Initiative. In a period of three weeks, the Gen Nep volunteers through various activities, expedited the receipt of NRs.136,750/- (in words Nepali Rupees One Lakh Thirty Six thousand Seven Hundred Fifty only), to the non government organization Safalta HIV Shiksha Sadan, which is the first school for HIV infected children in Nepal. Celebrating Success of Hamri Bahini

To celebrate the initial success of Hamri Bahini- The Green Angels Social Enterprise, His Excellency Mr. Frank Meyke organized a dinner at his residence. The dinner marked the success of Himalayan Climate Initiative’s Hamri Bahini Cotton Shopping Bag project that received angel funding from GIZ. Hamri Bahini Cotton Shopping Bag project aims to provide alternatives for the commonly used polythene bags found in every nook and corner of Nepal. The project has received massive private sector’s support as well with corporate partners like Jyoti Group, QFX Cinemas, World Link Communications Pvt. Ltd., Prisma Advertising, and PAGE. Student Council Workshop

Date: 11th May 2013 – 13th May 2013 Venue: Hotel View Bhrikuti, Godawari HCI in partnership with British Council is organize a three day Student Council Workshop from May 11 to May 13, 2013 at Hotel View Bhrikuti, Godawari. The Workshop was attended by 20 students each from 20 different schools from inside and outside Kathmandu Valley. The students were accompanied by one teacher each from the 20 schools. Of the three days, first two days featured the training sessions of British Council’s Connecting Classroom program and on the third day HCI’s program staffs disseminated information and concept of The Gen Nep- Nation First to the students. HCI Board Meeting

Eleven of the Board Members (out of fourteen), and one of HCI’s Int’l advisors attended the meeting. The meeting discussed the achievements and upcoming projects of HCI. The Board discussed matters around improving Corporate Governance and Communication, and suggested ways to bring to effect these improvements. The Board added one year term to HCI’s current Office Bearers led by Anil Chitrakar, its chairperson. The Gen Nep Success Event and Press Meet

In a solemn ceremony participated by more than hundred youth- most of them having already served as volunteers for the nation under The Gen Nep- Nation First volunteering platform celebrated their initial successes, and declared their plans to carry on with their next projects in the same zeal. Formally set up by the youth on 1st October 2012 at the initiation of Himalayan Climate Initiative and with the support of CG Foundation The Gen Nep- Nation First volunteers have already designed and embarked on eight social and environmental projects.
